'Evil In The Tree' pulses into existence on a magnificent sonic wave filled with metronomic percussion, mind numbing bass frequencies, chittering electronics and droning swirls of synth. Snarling vocalisations swirl menacingly in a dark turbulent haze as screaming lead guitar and haunting organ swells hold court allowing Demian Castellanos to imprint his addictive brand of audio chaos on the baying public. Track two; 'Paranormal Non-Activity' is a slightly calmer affair that dips in and out of dark, ambient hued reverberations whilst swirling through turbulent instrumental drones and tumbling swathes of angry electronics until eventually building into a monstrous incantational soundscape.

On a wave of steadying percussion wrapped deliciously in throbbing bass lines and the constant strum of angry guitars ‘This Other Kingdom’ unleash the opening salvos of ‘Common Colours, Common Sounds’, track one on their brutish sophomore album. It undulates and heaves through layers of glorious reverb, oscillating brilliantly around that impressive vocal line as it weaves through sonic peaks and troughs with blistering aplomb. This is a stunning opening track. Up next, ‘Eye Do Eye’ shimmers as it enters into audible range held fast in an instantly addictive 60’s psych vibe sonically peppered at times by a harder swirl of driving garage psych. The instantly recognisable vocalisations of Del Kerton holds everything together here and keeps this listener focused as surging guitars & pulsating percussion meld effortlessly with throbbing bass frequencies and driving production.
‘Telescopic State Of Mind’ bounds into earshot tumbling through repetitious drum patterns and hypnotically charged lead lines as the constant hum of bass notes add atmosphere whilst ‘Comatosed’ impresses with it’s driving guitar signature and catchy organ hooks. ‘Chemikle’ shimmies into the ether on a cloud of golden hued eastern esoteric flair as it’s droning instrumentation and lumbering percussive attack lurch and wobble on wave after wave of tremulous reverberation. This track moves and undulates collectively as one huge monolithic chunk of sonic energy acting solely as a conduit for that impressive vocal line. Up next, ‘Rays For Days (When The Sun Did Shine)’ is a repetitious behemoth that leans heavily on the constant twang of mechanical guitar and shimmering (cymbal heavy) drum pattern whilst ‘Hellion’ is a driving sonic triumph and probably my favourite track on this entire release. It pulses menacingly on a stunning drum pattern as billowing instrumentation underscored by a stunning lead guitar line licks and harasses the vocal to within an inch of its life.
‘Réveur’ takes a welcoming mellow turn next as ‘Morning Skies’, it’s penultimate piece, enters the sonic arena slowly revolving in a haze of turbulent reverberation. Creeping percussion holds a steady beat here as Del Kerton’s haunting vocalisations keep a kind of fixed holding pattern in the eye of a billowing sonic storm. Up next, the cinematic ‘नई दिल्ली सात’ pulls some esoteric vibes back into play and melds them brilliantly with impressionistic neo-psychedelia to create a beautifully intense acid blotched instrumental sonic trip. The album closes with the atmospheric ‘Valley Of Nowhere’, a dark slab of modern tinged psych rock that builds and undulates on waves of fuzzed out guitars and explosive drum patterns that jostle and push it’s vocal boundaries until they howl and wail like a primordial animal on the hunt. A fitting ending to a rather interesting album.

‘Spooky Satisfaction At A Distance’ arrives into the ether held fast in a repetitious percussive swagger as its soaring synth swells echo and drone meticulously as if held in a continuous sonic stasis. Angry guitars growl and belch out distorted atmospherics whilst its haunting vocalisations swirl through swathes of gratifying reverberation. It is a sublime opening track filled with intensely hypnotic instrumentation that streams effortlessly through layers of blissed out electronically charged modern psychedelia. ‘Augen Zu’ drones and swirls into audible range strapped to sequenced electronic percussion and a deeply repetitive guitar progression. This track builds through each chord change brilliantly as underlying synth swells buffer and harass those hypnotically charged vocal lines with stunning aplomb. The arrival shimmering tambourine hits and undulating shakers add instant atmosphere as those cascading synth lines loop and arc through clouds of reverb like some sort of sonic hallucinogen. ‘Augen Zu’ is sublimely addictive and is probably my favourite track on this entire release.
Up next, ‘Life & Death’ billows effortlessly through infectious guitar progressions, gyrating organ lines and distant vocalisations that collectively ripple and surge through spiralling production and woozy denouements whilst swirling frequency laden sonic tendrils reach out to wrap themselves around sequenced electronic drum patterns as ‘Tell Me Something’ enters earshot draped in a hazy veil of droning instrumentation that melds effortlessly with atmospheric swells of synth & guitar. The arrival of distant reverb drenched vocalisations add depth to the track as it’s snaking percussive thrills dance and skip on a bedrock of iridescent bass frequencies and vibrating mechanical sound waves. The EP’s closing piece growls and fizzes into earshot on a wave of punishing feedback driven guitar squall. ‘My Girl (Spoken)’ shudders precariously on a kind of metronomic percussive precipice as throbbing bass frequencies hold court underlined by electronic beeps and whirrs that accompany an up front vocal line. Noisy guitars circumnavigate the entire piece emitting a menacing atmospheric hue to proceedings as the track rises and falls hypnotically through stunning vocal samples and swirling clouds of reverberation. A fitting end to a bloody marvellous EP.

ACID BENCH by Dead Gurus
'Acid Bench' opens in a feral haze of tape hiss, feedback and raging guitar squall as 'Vibrations' kick starts it's inner engine and winds up its hypnotically charged instrumentation into a blazing cyclonic whirlwind of intense noise. Repetitious drones coupled with squealing lead guitar lines lick and whip the entire piece to within an inch of its life as those stomping drum patterns act as a metronomic kind of timekeeper. It's monotone vocalisations add intense atmosphere as we're dragged on a fuzz laden voyage of psychedelic discovery. Up next, 'Mistress X' pulses on a wave of reverberating guitars, throbbing bass frequencies and pounding drums as it's highly addictive vocal lines weave an enticing sonic web, luring it's listeners into a turbulent inner core before unleashing a torrent of fuzz, phasing guitars and a full on sonic storm of wailing noise. 'Serpent Fire' is an undulating sonic behemoth filled with throbbing bass lines, unrelenting guitars & a repetitious percussive attack whilst 'Celestial Fuzz' cleanses the soul with it's melody driven opening bars before unleashing a full on mind bending torrent of menacing psych rock that swirls around it's mantra like vocalisations with blistering aplomb. 'Celestial Fuzz' is a cyclonic beast that twists and turns through many different sonic permutations. It's a bruising white knuckle ride that heaves and pulses intermittent reverberations out into the ether on waves of hypnotically charged incantations that will leave you wanting more. Definitely my favourite track on this entire release, 'Celestial Fuzz' is a modern day psych rock triumph and a serious recommendation from me.
Up next, 'Song For Saraswati' swirls into audible range on blissful waves of peaceful instrumentation, draped in swathes of eastern esoteric flair, mysticism and droning vocalisations. These opening bars however lead us all into a false sense of security as 'Dead Gurus' unleash a churning sea of frequential noise, filled with unrelenting repetitious instrumentation and mantra like vocalisations that collectively form a heady invocation of mind altering, mescaline fuelled brilliance. Do yourselves a favour and pop on some headphones, sit back and let 'Song For Saraswati' seep into your inner psyche. You will thank me for the tip afterwards. The albums penultimate piece is dark and cyclical. 'Starlight Sisters' takes no prisoners, there's absolutely nowhere to hide from this turbulent brute. Steeped in heavy bass patterns and raging guitars it swings menacingly on a bedrock of metronomic percussion building in intensity as it meanders through the ether cutting a deep furrow through proceedings just to allow those entrancing vocal lines to sit comfortably somewhere whilst all around them wields a sonic war of attrition. 'Dead Gurus' keep the longest track on the entire album to close out with. Coming in at a whopping eight minutes plus 'Black Silk' uses punishing instrumentation to circumnavigate those intense vocal lines. Explosive percussion and repetitious bass frequencies tie the piece to terra firma as all around them pulses and undulates into a wild sonic beast that surges wave after wave of punishing vibrations out into the ether. 'Black Silk' is powerfully addictive and it closes out what will surly be one of the best releases of 2017 come years end!

The album opens up with an intriguing but highly addictive droning tone that swirls & arcs within some kind of suspended animation until we’re treated to that shimmering guitar line, shuffling drum pattern, tambourines, reverb drenched vocal progressions and the mesmerising swagger of ‘Strange Vibrations’. Up next, is the aptly named but blindingly brilliant ‘Who Married Jane Fonda’. It permeates the sound sphere & introduces us to a haunting, duel vocal attack straddling a simple but repetitive drum & synth pattern and those insanely hazy guitars! ‘Stars’ jangles on its beautiful shoegazing sonic axis while ‘Who Says’ is reminiscent of US based alt psych aficionados ‘The Warlocks’ with its lazy, layered fuzzy tone that addictively floats on a wave of reverberating joy. ‘What You Want’ evokes that shimmering 60’s tinge of romantic melancholy mixed with menacing ‘Velvet Undergound’ styled overtones.
‘Im Crying’ is like a modern day psych soul explosion with its piercing organ swells, fuzzed out guitars and distorted vocal lines & the brilliant ‘Its All In A Dream’ is an abrupt reverberating wall of noise! ‘If You Want To’ is a psychedelic journey of epic proportions with its soaring organ swells & reverb drenched vocal lines all swirling within a maelstrom of droning guitars & repetitive drums. ‘Dead Space’ is a menacing, swirling ball of coiled up noise that loops & arc’s all over the sonic landscape with aplomb whilst ‘Clean Eyes’ is six minutes plus of impressive, shimmering, melodic brilliance that creeps and waits in the shadows before exploding onto the musical canvass with stunning effect.
Up next, ‘Desert Talk’ is a spaced out, wavy instrumental affair that has impressive peaks & troughs throughout while the dynamic ‘Taken’ slows proceedings down completely to a beautiful cacophony of golden shimmering sound waves. ‘Fake Human’ begins with a swirling synth sample that in turn heralds the arrival of a brilliant psych driven behemoth. ‘Fake Human’ is utter self indulgence & a true sonic masterpiece. It’s the jangling intro of ‘Now It’s Dark’ that quickly makes way for a thrill ride through an infectious, desert gaze inspired soundscape, jam packed full of impressive droning & swirling whirlwinds of sound, but steadied by a solid drum pattern, hypnotic tambourines and pure, full on psychedelic charm! White Light Fever’s closing track is thing of beauty! ‘White Light’ in my opinion, is the foundation stone of this entire release. A swirling blissful drone completely wraps itself around the musical atmosphere, its careful tone shaping & comforting the carelessly enveloping sound waves with ease. You really have to listen to this track on headphones to experience it in it’s entirety.
Overall ‘White Light Fever’ is passionately experimental. It twists & turns with psychedelic glee and entrances its listeners with every single solitary note. This album is thoroughly enjoyable, recommended listening & a worthy entrant into any psych gazing fans music collection.

Collectively, 'The Valkarys' have a very unique sound that skips nonchalantly through a beautifully melodic & endearing sixties psych vibe thats deliciously underscored by a distinctly modern approach.

The EP opens up with 'Grandma', a brilliantly executed slice of tremolo induced melancholy. 'Grandma' swirls blissfuly through cascading guitar lines that seem to perfectly filter out to envelope those incredible duel vocal lines courtesy of Scott William Dunlop and Sarah Ross. Up next, 'This Time's Today' floats into earshot on subtle acoustic vibrations coupled with the hum of bass frequencies, steadying drums and a jangling lead lick that snakes in and out of Scott William Dunlop's distinct vocal takes with aplomb. 'This Time'sToday' is wonderfully melodic and takes the listener with it on a beautiful journey of sonic discovery. The EP's title track ambles into earshot next. 'Since I Was Fifteen' begins with an acoustic guitar progression and a whirling drone before exploding into a cacophony of reverberating colour as the drums, bass and slide guitar soar into the ether. Vocally sublime, 'Since I Was Fifteen' is possibly my favourite track on the entire release. Simply beautiful.
The EP's penultimate piece, 'I Cheated Time', is a foot tapping 60's garage juggernaut. It rattles into the ether on a hi-hat heavy percussive pattern coupled with driving guitars and shaking tambourines, ploughing a heavy furrow as it deftly meanders on its predesignated course. A monumental track that will have you humming along to its hypnotic instrumentation. The EP closes out on a jangling acoustic strum and subtle synth swells. 'Crazy Shoes' introduces slide guitar to proceedings as Scott William Dunlop preaches the good word to the baying masses. Reminiscent at times to mid 90's Verve, The La's & Echo And The Bunnymen, 'Crazy Shoes' shakes and rattles into a glorious finale. A fitting end to a very satisfying EP.

'EP 1' unfurls its burgeoning sonic tendrils from deep within a reverberating vortex, filled with growling guitar drone, throbbing bass frequencies and the incessant thump of the bass drum. 'Ballroom Spritzer' skulks impatiently like a misguided school boy, dripping with hypnotic swagger as it deftly meanders down dark sonic corridors, wrapping itself around that brilliantly executed boy/girl vocal and constantly building momentum until we're thrust headlong into a maelstrom of impressive noise and dragged effortlessly along with it through stunning sonic peaks and troughs. 'Ballroom Spritzer' will blow your mind from its opening notes. Up next, held fast within the twang of tremulous guitars and howling feedback, lives the masterful 'Black Box'. It explodes through its chorus progressions in a hail of fuzzy instrumentation & pounding drums before the listener is dragged back into the calmer waters of its verse progressions, safe in the arms of those soothing boy/girl vocal tracks that seem to instil a short-lived sense of calm to the piece before exploding once more into a cacophony of noise. 'Back Box' is what I imagine walking in and out through the eye of a raging tornado feels like. It's that bloody good.
The EP's penultimate track slows proceeding down to a dark crawl. 'Snakes' undulates as it hovers into ear shot on a woozily repetitive lead guitar line, underscored with reverberating whammy bar theatrics and a metronomic percussive pattern. Vocally reminiscent at times to the brilliant UK based 'Dead Rabbits', 'Snakes' builds beautifully and floats through a wonderfully translucent vocal break before leading the listener to its eventual explosive finale. The EP's closes out with another impressive piece. 'Write To The Devil' swirls into the ether on an repetitive drone and deliciously dark bass frequencies, before the introduction of a shaking tambourine and another impressive vocal performance cracks up the atmosphere. Pounding drums ride the ensuing sonic wave as the track explodes into a maelstrom of fuzzy noise, howling vocals and throbbing bass. A fitting end to a marvellous debut EP.
