Montreal band 'No Joy' are one of the genre's gems. Crafting intoxicating melodies, their dry wit and dark edges are a potent combination. 'Hare Tarot Lies' embodies this perfectly and is simply one of the best songs ever. So with all that in mind, I was pretty pleased to be asked to review their latest release, a short sharp shot of shoegaze. The EP 'Droolsucker' came out a few weeks back and travels from thunderous fury to mellifluous mellowness in just three tracks.
Drool Sucker by No Joy
They show off their deep, dark imaginations in 'A Thorn in Garlands Side' with ferocious guitars screaming, 'Xo (Adam's Getting Married)' is shades lighter in feel and sound, glimmering with a mischievous sense of humour. Closer 'Theme Song' is so melodious, with Jasamine and Laura’s vocals shimmering serenely.
'No Joy' are touring Europe in August with Poland, Germany and the UK on the list. Get out and see them.
